Chances are that you have heard about using Botox as a beauty treatment. But did you know that Botox can actually help people who have certain health conditions? Below are some of the medical uses for Botox.
Injections of Botox are often used to help people who have migraine headaches. This could be considered if other treatments aren’t effective, if the patient doesn’t tolerate them well, or if there are too many side effects from the other treatments.
2. Excessive sweating
Botox can also be used for hyperhidrosis also known as excessive sweating. It will work by blocking the signals sent by the brain to your sweat bands. The injections are done into the areas that are affected like the face, hands, armpits or feet.
3. Urinary incontinence
A study was done in 2012 that found injecting Botox into a patient’s bladder wall can help with treating urinary incontinence.
4. Muscle Spasms and MS
Botox has been used for decreasing spasticity from neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis. They can help with stopping the muscles from twitching or contracting when the patient isn’t doing it.
5. Tennis elbow
Botox injections can help with reducing tennis elbow pain.
6. Bell’s palsy
This illness causes someone’s face to droop on one side due to nerve problems. The effects from Bell’s palsy often will go away after a few months. But Botox can be used when someone has been suffering from Bell’s palsy for relaxing the muscles that are tight or help with reducing unwanted twitching or muscle movements.
When someone has strabismus, their eyes often squint or have crossed eyes. Their eyes aren’t looking towards one object at the same time. When Botox is injected into one of the eyes, it can help. This usually happens when someone starts squinting without any apparent cause. The injection will weaken that muscle and this allows the person’s eyes to realign themselves.
8. Eye twitching
When you suffer from eye twitching, your upper eyelid often will repeatedly and uncontrollably blink or spasm. Botox is often recommended to give someone relief from the spasms for a few months.
9. Essential tremor
This is a nerve disorder which causes uncontrollable tremors or shaking and affects different areas of a person’s body. It’s been found that Botox can help with this when someone suffers from head or vocal tremors.
These are some of the most common problems that Botox has been used to help with other than making you look younger.
